Summer 2005 Issue 3
You can tell a Lichliter, but you can’t tell ‘em much!
The August 2003 Lichliter
reunion was held at Camp Soles, in Somerset County, PA. After an
opportunity to get reacquainted and look at family memorabilia and
pictures, we enjoyed a hayride around the lovely YMCA camp. During
the pre-dinner events, Helene Keller, wife of Ron Keller,
analyzed handwriting for the many of us who lined up for her service. Helene,
who has done this for several years as a professional, was right
on the money! During the buffet dinner, guests took turns telling
family stories. Ron Riley related an incident where, as a
youngster, he had to appear before Johnny Lichliter, then
town burgess, for pulling a Halloween prank. Suzy Lichliter,
Johnny’s daughter who had come to the reunion with two former teacher
pals from Philadelphia, was especially amused. Prize-winners were Emily
Jane (Lichliter) Hickson for oldest female in attendance; John
Blocher (Biz Lichliter Blocher’s husband), for oldest male in
attendance; Timmy (5) and Kevin (3) Ketcham, sons of Allison
(Miller) Ketcham for the youngest in attendance; Edith and
Floyd Clark, for the most children with six; and Lois and
Dutch Lichliter for coming the furthest, from Scottsdale, AZ. Connie
and Ron Lichliter donated the prizes. (Thanks!) During our requisite
group photo we amused ourselves by boisterously chanting the line
from a story told by one of the ancestors. Apparently an acquaintance
of one of the Lichliters said of the family: You can tell a Lichliter,
but ya can’t tell ‘em much!
GLEN SAVAGE
RANCH
The venue of this year’s
Lichliter reunion has been changed from Camp Soles to Glen Savage
Ranch, both in Somerset County, PA, to accommodate more people with
children and the numerous schoolteachers in the family. We were
able to get a date earlier in August at Glen Savage, one that wasn’t
so close to school starting dates.
Traditionally we have had
the reunion around the second weekend in August, every other year. Obviously
we’d like to have a date that accommodates the highest number of
people, and if more people want to make it a yearly event, we can
do that. We can always use help with the planning, too! We would
appreciate your feedback. bev_ricks@hotmail.com rockymt@wpia.net D.Lichliter@aol.com

Branching
Out
Have you checked out
the Lichliter website at www.lichliter.com? Plenty of people have. Three
branches of the family have found us through the website. Levi
Lichliter’s brother, Henry Harrison Lichliter’s descendent, Charlotte Crawford first contacted Dutch
Lichliter in 2000. She and cousin, Edith Clark and Edith’s
husband, Floyd, were at our 2001 reunion and Edith and Floyd
were back in 2003. Charlotte lives in Arizona and Edith and Floyd
still live in Illinois near Henry Harrison Lichliter’s homestead.
Linda Cron, who
lives in Florida, is descended from Jacob Leichliter and
his second wife, Martha Williams.
Jacob
Leichliter is the common ancestor of Linda Cron and Levi and his
descendents. Jacob was Levi Lichliter's grandfather.
Recently Melissa Leighliter
Drewry of Florida, a descendant of the Leighliter and Buttermore
families from near Connellsville, PA checked in. Melissa writes
that a previously planned trip to Connellsville is scheduled
for the week before the 2005 reunion, but she plans to come to
the one in 2007!
Thanks to the joint efforts
of Dutch Lichliter and Mike Blocher, you can enjoy pictures
from previous reunions, read about our genealogy or earlier editions
of the Lichliter Lantern, and see what your distant
cousins have to say, when you click into our website. And while
you’re checking out our website, you can click onto the Salisbury,
PA website at www.salisburypa.com set up by Lori
Garlitz De Vault. There you can read about the town’s history,
organizations, and disasters, as well as see old photos, many of
which include Lichliters.
Let’s
Keep In Touch!
A
number of you have moved over the past two years. While I’ve caught
up with most of you, I’ve been unsuccessful in finding a new address
for Laurie and Jim Thorwalt, and there may be others I’m not aware
of. Please send your change of addresses, and any news you’d like
the rest of the family to know about to one of the email addresses
on the front page or call 301-318-9405. If I’ve omitted any names
that should have appeared in this edition or gotten the facts confused,
please know it was unintentional.
