SOMERSET CO. PA

1. Grave of Rev. John Campbell Leichliter (father of Levi Lichiter of Salisbury, PA)

This cemetery is visible about 1/2 mile west of Hwy 281, surrounded by farm fields. Look for Chicken Bone Rd. at the Sechler Farm, about 4 miles North of Ursina. The grave is in the northeast portion of the cemetery.

2. This old cemetery has not been cared for and in 1999 was very overgrown, with only about a dozen tombstones resurrected.. But records indicate that this is the burial location of Susan (Younkin) Leichliter (Levi’s mother). Turn left off T322 at the Nichola farm home and go 1/2 mi. on dirt road to locked gate. Walk last 1000 feet to cemetery.

3. Grave of Jemima Campbell Leighliter, (1st wife of Jacob L. and grandmother of Levi). Her very well preserved tombstone is easily found in this cemetery. Located on the farm of Kay Younkin Wilson.. in the middle of their pasture. Check at farmhouse with them before entering.

John Leighliter secured a warrant for some 200 acres of land here in 1800. It was adjacent to farms owned by the Younkin family., hence the common family cemetery.
